MAS .... will u fly with me???

When I go for business trip, my colleagues always say to me...
Simple Person.. so nice.... you going for holiday trip again.....
Well I am rather exchange the place with you..... I stay in office and let you travel..
I always agree on one Chinese wise saying...
"I see you good and you see me good ....

Normally I will travel to Shanghai by MAS airlines...
Luckily my company still didn't go for cost reduction for using Air Asia.....
You see our mind concept is that MAS is alaways good but the cost is expensive...
If you plan for a budget holiday trip.. will you go for MAS or Air Asia......

As usual for MAS travellers we will be given a free meal and some snacks during the journey.....

I always enjoy my meal from KLIA to Pudong Shanghai (9.00 am flight)...

KLIA --> Pudong, Shanghai
There are 2 options - Nasi Lemak or Omelette..
I always choose Omelette..
as you can see that there are so many side dishes..
bread, butter, cake, fruits, muesli bar (behind the bread)
I always finish all the fruits...

Then the best thing that I love is ........
this time the air stewardess gave me 2 pcs...
maybe I am handsome (ahem .... )

Then when I come back from Pudong, Shanghai to KLIA ......

Braise chicken rice, salad, water and pudding...
So much difference huh... and where is my MAGNUM??
it is always a SAD meal...

After a sad meal then I just read some newspaper and my colleague was busy watching some movies...
MAS on the headlines again in the business news section...
Air Asia & MAS share swap had ended...

Hmm... what caught my attention is the MAS current financial situation.....
CAPEX (capital expenditure) this year (2012) =  -RM6,000,000,000.00 (RM6 billion)
CAPEX (capital expenditure) next year (2013) = -RM3,500,000,000.00 (RM3.5 billion)
Cash on hand                                                      = +RM1,100,000,000.00 (RM1.1 billion)

Cash burn rate = RM5,000,000.00/day (RM5 million/day).......
I just let you do the maths ........

Sighhhh :(
how am I going to repay the CAPEX and the burning rate of RM5 mill/day?

I know get more heads to think......
let's listen to our employees..
According to the STAR report : Quoted by Md Nor...
"We need to re-visit the business plan. This time it will be more inclusive in that we need to have staff engagement. We have asked them for ideas and we gave them a
"TOUGH DEADLINE BY FRIDAY.."
who say being employees is easy....

Then the next pages ....  there is another hope for MAS....
issue RM3bil Islamic bond ...that's the way...

At least someone is smiling.....
I am a Happy Man ... my AA shares increase to RM3.64...

So people ..............please fly with me(MAS) ....
MH is Malaysian Hospitality.....

    2. true...

I like flying with JAL. ;)

Always the preferred airline for trips to Japan. More than MAS or SQ. ;p

  4. ooo, i've never had the option of omelet or nasi lemak for my MAS flights before. i guess it's because i usually try to avoid morning flights (i aim for afternoon flights whenever possible). heheh, and i NEVER ever get even one piece of ice cream! :D

    1. so start to have morning flight.. to get your ice cream
      lol

  5. Ice cream only for flights out of KLIA. Flights from Sibu to KLIA, no ice cream as the aircraft originates from Kuching to Sibu to KLIA...and no ice cream for breakfast! Lunch or dinner only.

I thought they only give ice cream during school holidays? Lucky you!

  6. When flying, have to check both airlines...or in your case, more than two. Compare prices...sometimes, the cheap airlines with all the add-ons...not really cheap - MAS may be cheaper even...like my daughter's return flights Penang-KLIA-Sibu for the coming holidays. Going back after the holidays, the cheap airline is cheaper, so she's taking that.

    1. yup it is true...
sometime MAS air ticket is cheaper..
but we always have the perception that AA is the cheapest ...

  7. Hello! :D I travel back and forth from KL to Melbourne several times a year by MAS and I absolutely sick of the food! The worst is during the 12am flights- they serve you supper at 3-ish (full course with rice, bread, etc.) and all you get for breakfast is a chicken roll. And they don't even on the light when serving that and try to skip those people who are sleeping! hehe sorry! sounds like I'm venting :P But I try to avoid MAS as much as I possibly can!

    1. I tried the night flight at 2am...
They woke me up at 3.00am for a heavy meal....... can you believe that?
For me I really rather sleep than eat....
I always looks like a zombie when reach over there...
That is why I always skip the night flight....
SIA is better? for me I choose MAS because I could save up on the Fly points...
services wise .. I think it is OK... always keep on refill my wine n beer ...

    2. HAHA yes! someone need to tell them that ppl need to sleep :P
same here! the only reason I choose MAS is my points!

  9. I try to fly MAS if possible, sometimes due to pricing which is way too low from AA, then I will have to budget the pocket.. but in any case, should there be promo or anything, MAS come to my mind first.. I check out MAS promo more often than AA actually..

    1. of course ...
if can everyone want to fly MAS..
I think MAS should change their concept...
maybe the slogan ... with MAS everyone can fly also.....
When I come back from China ..it is about 40% empty...
why not sell those empty seats with a cheaper cost?
We benefit from cheaper flights and MAS could generate more sales ...
Just like those bread shop .. after 9pm they will throw in 30% discount or buy one free one...

  10. of course people will prefer MAS than AA, but then many times it's the cost that matters.. if it's just a little difference, i don't mind paying that extra bit for more comfort.. but then it's not most of the time like this..

    1. I am thankful that we have AA.
so that it is not a monopolize business...
consumer will be benefit from this.....

  11. I think MAS is in need for a good restructuring! Last year or couple of years back I heard that MAS & SIA was suffering bad loss (if my memory serve me well), somehow SIA manage to pull it thru and making profit now. I guess MAS has a good reason to learn from its counterpart!

    1. I think the most important is to listen to the customer views and the oponents tactics...
      We need PLC ticket ..
and if MAS could able to do this, they should be in black in couple of months time..
coz they are burning feel and carry AIR (empty space) to the destination..
they should maximise all the seats....
(eg. my ticket cost abt RM2k... if they could sell those empty seat at least 50% discount,
they are actually getting some money back)
we are happy and MAS generate more sales.... win win situation....
maybe MAS could hire me as their strategiest advisor.. lol...

    2. Well u can't really compare MAS & AA on apple to apple comparison la.....

I remember hearing from someone from the airline industry.... the low cost carrier normally compromise a bit on the maintenance to keep their cost low. But i dunno how true is this la~

  13. MAS and Air Asia are just like Original and Pirated CD/DVD. Original CD/DVD sure has good quality, but way too expensive if compare to Pirated CD/DVD. If money isn't an issue, I will go for MAS, but money is always an issue la! Especially I am travelling in a family of 4. You do the calculation for me, you will know my choice. hahahaha!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. but nowadays the quality of pirated CD/DVD is very good... LOL
at my place buy 5 free 1 .. hahaha ..
I think sooner or later MAS will have a big fare promotion to push up sales..
so keep your eyes on the news...

      especially after a good meal.....
is it really only on MAS flights? i think for certain destination only..

  15. Its good to see AA is blooming. Which means MAS has a strong competitor. That automatically gives chance to MAS to improves in terms of services and do more promo fares. So, we consumers will get more opportunity to enjoy a comfortable flight with MAS at a lower price. rite? =p

  17. I used to travel with MAS always cause I have the MAS student card not until AA exist. But then, now always travel with AA whenever I travel abroad especially my most recent trips (Hong Kong, Taiwan, Shenzen, Phuket, Korea and more) cause I am budget traveller and AA may not seems to be a big deal for me especially the leg space cause I am short =P

But somehow I will compare the price between MAS and AA especially travel from KK to KL. The air stewardess gave you 2 pieces summore, so good lah. Must be you did something to her.. Hahaha..
